Should You Diet or Have a Healthy Eating Plan?

Should you diet?

Well, I did it.

I tweeted my first tweet this week. Or is it “I twittered my first tweet”? No, it’s definitely “I tweeted my first tweet”. Right?

Hmm, well whichever it is, it happened. And I’m going to be completely honest, I don’t think I know what I’m doing! I mean I think I have a pretty good handle on other forms of social media, but this Twitter thing well, it’s a bit different. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it soon. Hopefully.

In the meantime, I have a favor to ask of you. Do you enjoy this blog? If so, please share! Like it. Share it. Then share it again. And follow me! Instagram. Facebook. Twitter. Pinterest. One of my goals for upgrading my website is to increase traffic. Traffic is a super important thing for a blog. The more people find my blog means the more people will read my content. And you know what that means? It means more people will be reading nutrition advice from an expert. And that’s super important to me.

Sure I’m passionate about nutrition. Sure I’m passionate about food. But you know what else? I’ve received a BS in dietetics. I’m registered. I’m accredited. I’m licensed. Let me tell you – becoming a dietitian is no small feat. Why am I telling you all this? Well, simply because there are too many unqualified people giving out bad nutrition advice. And it makes me mad.

Want to know more? Check out this short video. And I guess you can say that I’m also super passionate about providing you with good and valid nutrition information.

Okay. My rant is over. I’ll get down from my soapbox- for now.

So as we move forward in the new year, did you make any resolutions? I recently read a survey that found the top resolution for 2016 was “Enjoy life to the fullest”.  And you know what’s #2? “Live a healthier lifestyle” Followed by, of course, “Lose weight”. And I bet most of you went on a diet, right? I bring this up because it reminded me of a great infographic I saw on Twitter (hmmm, there’s that Twitter again) – Diet or Healthy Eating Plan? The question is – is there a difference? YES! I’ve never been a fan of the word ‘diet’. Why? Well, typically it represents something that’s temporary, something that’s restrictive, something that’s negative. Now let’s think about a healthy eating plan – it’s a way of life, it’s about enjoying food, it’s about positivity. Hmmm, which one would you want to do? I know my answer.

Let’s face it, losing weight isn’t all that hard – it’s keeping it off that’s the big challenge. Having a healthy eating plan or living a healthy lifestyle is about making these habits part of your life. Once you lose the weight you want to keep it off – yes? So why not move forward with making some permanent changes?

How about instead of eating less, eat healthier?
