Award Dipping Onion Dip

This is it. This is the last post written in Kansas City. This time next week I’ll be somewhere on I-70 driving east – well, weather permitting. So you’ll have to excuse me for not posting next week. I know – I have some nerve.

But hey it’ll be okay. Once I’m settled in I’ll be back. I’ll even leave you with a new recipe – my version of Onion Dip. I mean who doesn’t love onion dip? It’s award season and while I’m a little late for the Grammy Awards, the Oscars are coming up!  And you know what? This dip would taste great with Homemade Potato Chips–  don’t ya think?

What? You say you’re not really into onion dip? Hmm, well okay. Maybe clam dip is more your thing.  Want something a little more filling? How about making a thin crust pizza and topping it with your favorite toppings? Anyway you like it, any of this ideas would be a great addition to your award party spread or even if you’re just watching alone.

So I’ll spare you the nutrition talk this week. Why? Well, because quite frankly I’m up to my knees in packing and I want to get a move on! But guess what? March is National Nutrition Month so it will be a month packed with nutrition! I can hardly wait!

Award Dipping Onion Dip
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 black garlic cloves
  • 8 oz. sour cream
  • 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons celery salt
  • Hot sauce to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Heat olive oil in fry pan, add onion and shallot.
  2. Stir so olive oil coats the onion and shallot, Cook slowly until they begin to soften and turn brown.
  3. Add garlic and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Once the onion, shallot and garlic have turned golden brown, remove from heat and let cool.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix together sour cream, Greek yogurt, worcestershire sauce,onion powder, paprika, and celery salt.
  6. Once cool, add the onion mixture to the sour cream mixture. Stir to combine all ingredients.
  7. Season with a couple drops of hot sauce and salt and pepper.
  8. Let chill at least 30 minutes before serving.
